Best AI Prompts for Cheap Flights (2026)
Prompts for cheap flights#
Five starting points#
Act as a flight-search planner. I want a round trip from [DESCRIBE YOUR HOME AIRPORT AND NEARBY ALTERNATIVES] to [DESCRIBE YOUR DESTINATION AND NEARBY AIRPORTS] in [PASTE YOUR DATE WINDOW]. Build a step-by-step search plan: which date combinations and airports to price, in what order, and what to record in a comparison table. You cannot see live fares, so do not state prices; tell me what to look up and where.I am pricing a multi-city trip: [PASTE YOUR LIST OF CITIES AND FLEXIBLE DATES]. Compare booking it as one multi-city ticket against separate one-way or round-trip tickets. For each approach list the questions I must answer on the booking page (total price with bags, layover length, what happens if the first flight is delayed and I miss the second). Flag where separate tickets remove airline protection. Here are the fare details I copied from three booking pages: [PASTE YOUR FARE OPTIONS WITH PRICE, BAGGAGE RULES, SEAT FEES, CHANGE AND CANCELLATION TERMS]. Calculate the total cost of each for [DESCRIBE YOUR TRAVELLERS AND BAGS], rank them by total cost, and list which conditions could change that ranking. Use only the numbers I pasted.Help me set up price tracking for [DESCRIBE YOUR ROUTE AND DATE FLEXIBILITY]. Explain which tracking settings to choose in the fare tool I use ([DESCRIBE YOUR TOOL, E.G. GOOGLE FLIGHTS]), what price drop is worth acting on given my budget of [PASTE YOUR MAXIMUM BUDGET], and a decision rule for when to book versus keep waiting. Do not predict future prices.I am about to book [DESCRIBE YOUR CHOSEN ITINERARY AND DESTINATION COUNTRY]. Write a pre-booking checklist: name spelling against my passport, passport validity and visa or entry rules to confirm on the destination government's official site, connection time and whether I must collect and recheck bags, total price after fees, and the cancellation terms. Mark each item as something I must verify myself. What to add to any cheap-flights prompt#
- Your flexibility: date window, nearby airports and whether you can fly midweek. Google's prompt guide says supplying the context the model needs makes answers specific rather than generic.
- Your hard constraints and budget, stated as constraints. Google advises saying what the model should and should not do.
- Whether the model can browse. Say "you cannot see live fares" if it cannot, or name the tool it may call, so it does not fill the gap with remembered prices.
- Fare details you copied yourself, pasted as data. OpenAI advises supplying relevant data the model would not otherwise have, and Anthropic advises giving the motivation behind an instruction.
- The output format, such as a table with total price, bags, layover and change terms. Both OpenAI and Google advise stating the format explicitly.
A worked example#
Act as a flight-search planner. I want a round trip from Boston (BOS) or Providence (PVD) to Lisbon (LIS) or Porto (OPO) between May 10 and May 31, 2027, for 7 to 10 nights, one adult with one carry-on bag and no checked bag. My budget is $750 total. I can leave on any weekday. Build a step-by-step search plan: which date combinations and airport pairs to price first, in what order, and what to record in a comparison table (columns: airports, dates, total price with bags, stops, longest layover, change fee). You cannot see live fares, so do not state prices; tell me what to look up and where. Finish with three rules for deciding when to book.
A good result must contain:
- A ranked list of airport pairs and date windows to price, with the order and reason, not a guessed fare.
- A comparison table template that includes bag fees and change terms, so the lowest headline price is not the only column.
- A plain statement that it cannot see live prices, and a pointer to the airline or booking site for each lookup.
- Decision rules tied to your $750 budget and date window.
- A reminder to check the 24-hour hold or cancel terms and the destination's entry rules before paying.

Limits of this guide#
This page covers how to prompt for a search plan and a comparison, not how to find a particular fare. We did not test whether any prompt leads to cheaper tickets, and we did not test any model's browsing or flight-search tools. We could not read the US Department of Transportation consumer pages or the State Department travel pages (both returned access errors), so refund rules are cited from the regulations in the eCFR and entry rules are left to the destination's official site. Rules outside the US differ.

Frequently asked questions
What are the best AI prompts for cheap flights?
Use AI to plan how you search, not to quote fares. A chat model has no live prices or schedules unless it runs a browsing tool. Have it build a date and airport search plan, then price each option on the airline or booking site yourself.
Can ChatGPT or Claude find the cheapest flight for me?
Only if the tool you use can browse or call a flight-search service, and even then you should confirm the fare on the booking page. A plain chat model answers from training data, so any price it states is a guess. Ask it for a search plan instead.
Can I cancel a flight I booked after checking AI advice?
In the US, 14 CFR 259.5(b)(4) requires airlines to let you hold or cancel a reservation without penalty for at least 24 hours if you book a week or more before departure. Check the airline or agent page for its exact terms, since other countries differ.
