Grok Bot vs ChatGPT vs Claude: three agents, three ideas of where work runs
Grok Bot vs ChatGPT Work vs Claude compared on where tasks run, models, schedules, apps and entry price as of October 29, 2026, plus a pick-this-if guide.
◈Key Takeaways (5)

Pick Grok Bot for a standing crew of named Bots that share logins on one always-on cloud computer. Pick ChatGPT Work if you already pay OpenAI and want polished documents, decks and spreadsheets with a model picker. Pick Claude if you already pay Anthropic and want one conversation that decides when to spin up a task, each in its own disposable sandbox.
Two product names have shifted. ChatGPT agent is retired in favor of ChatGPT Work, and Cowork has been merged into Claude since September 16, 2026. This page compares the products as they stand on October 29, 2026, from vendor documentation; we have not run one task across all three.

Grok Bot: a team that stays#
Every Bot has a name, a job, its own conversation and memory. Bots run in parallel, message each other and share context in group chats. Because they all live on one persistent cloud computer, a login completed once works for every Bot, and work carries on with your laptop shut.
That shared computer is also the warning label. The docs say Bots on an account are not a security boundary: any Bot can use a session another signed into, while isolation between users is strict. Read Is Grok Bot safe? before connecting payment or admin accounts.
October narrowed the deliverables gap. Version 0.75.2 (October 22) added Pages you edit with the Bot or have it keep current, plus video from a description or image. Version 0.75.5 (October 23) added a Vault for logins, cards and contact details, Shop Pay, and email forwarding from a Bot's own inbox. Bots can use up to 200 plugin skills. Our plan guide explains which subscription unlocks what.
ChatGPT Work: deliverables with a model dial#
OpenAI positions Work for longer jobs: research a topic, analyze data, or produce a document, spreadsheet, presentation, report or Site. You choose the model, GPT-6 Astra for the hardest work, GPT-6.1 Sol for complex work at lower cost, or Luna for simple tasks. Work shares Codex's usage structure, and Codex sits beside it in the desktop app.
Event-triggered tasks can fire on a new Gmail message, a Slack channel message or GitHub pull request activity, on Plus and above. Cloud runs suit scheduled research because your machine can sleep. Desktop runs can use local files, apps and the browser with your permission; with sync on, a task follows you across devices and, if the connected computer drops, an eligible task falls back to a cloud container without that local access.
OpenAI also documents dots, an always-on agent with its own cloud computer on Pro 100, 200 and 500 outside the EEA, UK and Switzerland. Our alternatives roundup covers dots.
Claude: one chat that knows when to work#
In the merged Claude you just ask; Claude decides whether a quick reply or a task fits, runs tasks in the cloud and returns documents, spreadsheets or presentations. Anthropic's architecture overview says each cloud session gets a sandbox created at start and destroyed at end, with no reach into private network addresses and no connector tokens inside.
Tasks touching your computer's files or apps need Claude Desktop open. Scheduled tasks keep their cadence while your machine sleeps, unless they need local resources, in which case they run only locally. Accounts moved to the merged experience cannot switch back to separate Chat and Cowork.
Pick this one if#
Pick Grok Bot if:
- You want several specialist Bots that persist, remember and hand work to each other.
- One shared login set across Bots is a convenience, not a dealbreaker.
- You want routines triggered by Slack, GitHub or email to a Bot's own inbox.
- You do not care which model answers.
Pick ChatGPT Work if:
- You already pay for ChatGPT, or want to start on Free.
- Finished decks, spreadsheets and reports are the main output.
- You want to choose the model per task.
- Gmail, Slack or GitHub events should kick off work.
Pick Claude if:
- You already pay for Claude and want agent work inside normal chats.
- You want each cloud task walled off in a temporary sandbox.
- You want skills and role-based plugins rather than persistent Bots.
- Simple scheduled tasks (hourly to weekly) are enough.
Common mistakes when choosing#
- Comparing by sticker price. None of the three publishes allowances in comparable units. Measure usage on a real task.
- Searching for the old names. ChatGPT agent and standalone Cowork guides describe products that have moved.
- Assuming Bot names are walls. On Grok Bot, every Bot can reach every login on your computer.
- Testing with live connectors first. You end up comparing integrations, not agents.
- Scheduling before the method works. Get one clean manual run first; our skills vs routines guide explains the gate.
Test them on the same task#
Hand each candidate the same frozen document and brief, score against an answer key you wrote first, and log setup time, run time, review time and usage consumed. Keep logins and connectors out of round one. Our Grok Bot vs OpenClaw guide has the full protocol; this shorter brief works for a quick round:
Read the attached report. Produce a one-page summary with: the three main
findings, each with the page number it came from; any figures quoted, copied
exactly; and a list of claims the report makes without evidence. Do not use
web search, connectors or any external tool. Mark anything unreadable.
Return a draft only.
Our take#
If you live in ChatGPT or Claude already, start there; both now do agent work on plans you may be paying for. Grok Bot earns its $30 when you want persistent specialists that share one always-on workspace and trigger off real events. Run the frozen-document test on whichever two are closest before moving any logins.
Frequently asked questions#
Is ChatGPT agent still available?#
No. OpenAI's help article for ChatGPT agent now says it is no longer available. It points users to ChatGPT Work for longer, multi-step tasks and finished deliverables, and to the cloud browser for supported browser workflows. If you are comparing Grok Bot with ChatGPT today, ChatGPT Work is the product to evaluate.
Is Claude Cowork discontinued?#
It is being folded into Claude rather than shut down. Anthropic announced on September 16, 2026 that Cowork and chat are merging into one Claude, starting with Pro and Max. An October 23 update says the unified experience is generally available for Claude Enterprise, and Team has it in beta. There is no separate Cowork mode; you ask in any conversation.
Which is cheapest: Grok Bot, ChatGPT or Claude?#
By entry price, Claude Pro is $20 a month and ChatGPT Plus is $20, while ChatGPT Work is included even on Free and the $8 Go plan with GPT-6 Luna. Grok Bot starts at $30 on The X Subscription Premium, or $20 on legacy Cursor Pro. None publishes allowances in comparable units, so run one task in each and read the usage meter.
Can I import my ChatGPT or Claude setup into Grok Bot?#
There is no official importer in the Grok Bot docs. The Marketplace lists Import Bot, a third-party template by Shub Gaur that says it brings setups from Claude Cowork, Codex, ChatGPT, OpenClaw and Hermes into Grok Bot. It is untested here. Rewriting the brief by hand always works.
Which of the three is most secure?#
They put the boundary in different places. Grok Bot isolates users from each other, but all of one user's Bots share a single computer. Claude gives every cloud session its own temporary sandbox that never holds connector tokens. ChatGPT Work leans on approvals for important actions plus workspace permissions. In all three, the access you grant matters more than the product.
