Grok Bot is SpaceXSI's agent product: you create named AI teammates, give each one a job, and they do the work on a persistent cloud computer that has its own browser, files and terminal. They sign into your apps with your logins and keep going after you shut your laptop. It entered beta on August 11, 2026, and since October 12, 2026 it ships inside The X Subscription from the $30 Premium tier up.

How Grok Bot works#

Think of it as hiring a small staff that shares one office computer. Every account gets a single persistent cloud machine with a browser, a file system and a terminal. Each Bot you create works on that machine, under a name and a job you assign.

You talk to Bots the way you message coworkers. You ask for an outcome, they open the browser, use the files, or call a connected app, and they report back in the chat.

Four mechanics matter most:

  • Logins are yours. Bots sign into services with your own credentials. Where a plugin exists they use it; where none exists they use the browser.
  • Work continues offline. Closing the app does not stop a turn. The computer lives in the cloud, so the apps are only windows onto it.
  • Bots cooperate. They can share context, pass tasks to each other, learn skills by watching you, and run routines on a schedule.
  • One machine, one set of logins. Every Bot on your account uses the same computer, which shapes how you should think about access. Our safety guide covers what that means.

If terms like skill, routine or Vault are new, the Grok Bot glossary defines each one.

Who makes it, and why the name keeps changing#

The product name has stayed fixed. The company behind it has not.

  1. February 2026: SpaceX announces it has acquired xAI. The company then trades as SpaceXAI.
  2. August 11, 2026: Grok Bot launches in beta.
  3. August 14, 2026: Cursor becomes part of the company, three days after launch. Grok Bot runs on Cursor's cloud and accounts.
  4. October 2026: x.ai switches its branding to SpaceXSI. The legal entity is still SpaceXAI LLC.

So when you see xAI, SpaceXAI or SpaceXSI on a help page, it is the same publisher. Cursor's name shows up because sign-in, billing on older plans and much of the help content live there.

Grok Bot vs the other things called Grok#

Search results for "grokbot" mix agent tutorials with chatbot news because several products share the name. A simple test: if the page describes software that operates a computer and finishes tasks in your apps, it is Grok Bot. If it describes answering questions in a chat window, it is the chatbot.

Name What it does Where it lives
Grok Bot Always-on agents on a cloud computer that finish work in your apps Grok Bot desktop and mobile apps, x.ai/bot
Grok (chatbot) Conversational assistant and model family grok.com, the Grok app, the API
@grok on X The chatbot replying when tagged in a post Replies on X
@bot on X Hands a post to your main Bot as a task Tag @bot in a post; work happens in the Grok Bot app
Grok Build A separate coding agent and developer tooling Terminal, web and mobile, not the Bot apps
Grok in OpenClaw Grok models or a SuperGrok subscription inside the open-source OpenClaw platform Your own OpenClaw Gateway

The @bot handle deserves a note. Per the docs updated October 7, tagging @bot in a post sends it to your main Bot, @bot replies on X with only a confirmation, and the work draws on your weekly usage. You need a Grok account with X connected. It is not yet available to X accounts based in the EU, the UK, Australia, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway.

How you get access#

Grok Bot is bundled, never sold alone. The path depends on when you subscribed.

  • New customers (since October 12, 2026): buy The X Subscription. Premium is $30 a month, Super $100, Ultra $200. Team seats come at the same prices. Free and the $8 Plus plan do not include Grok Bot.
  • Existing subscribers: paid Cursor plans (Pro from $20 a month, Teams from $40 a seat), a linked SuperGrok or X Premium+ subscription, or a self-serve Grok Business seat still include it. SpaceXSI says these continue unless you choose to switch.

By October 25 the x.ai/bot pricing panel listed Premium, Super and Ultra, and its FAQ said Grok Bot is included with Premium, Super, Ultra, Teams and Enterprise. Our Grok Bot pricing guide breaks down every tier, the switching rules and the trial terms.

One catch for older plans: a Cursor staff member said on October 11 that the Bots section inside the main Grok app, and Grok in a Tesla, needs SuperGrok. Cursor-plan users work in the separate Grok Bot apps instead. Whether X Subscription plans unlock the Grok app's Bots section is unconfirmed.

What it has gained since launch#

Releases land several times a week. These are the changes that alter what Grok Bot is, not just how it looks.

Team and orchestration#

  • Shared Bots (once called Team Bots): one Bot for a whole team, in public beta on Teams and Enterprise since late September. The changelog still said Team Bot on October 27.
  • Projects (0.57.0, September 18): a Bot can start a Cloud Agent that plans the work and runs its own agents.

Reach#

  • Bot email address (October 11 entry, 0.69.0 to 0.70.2): one address per account at mail.grokbot.com, permanent once claimed.
  • Public X search without an X account, app cards for tools such as Figma, Notion and Canva, and payment through X Money or Stripe Link.
  • Connect Apps replaced the in-app Marketplace in October.

Capacity and output#

  • 0.71.2 (October 14): 20 attachments per message with a 200 MB total, files up to 250 MB, videos up to 1 GB, and up to 200 plugin skills instead of 24.
  • 0.75.2 (October 22): Pages for reports, memos and dashboards, video creation, a Pinned section in the Library, and Shop Pay.
  • 0.75.5 (October 23): Vault for saved logins, cards and contact info; email forwarding; routines up to 300 runs an hour in total and 200 per routine.

Control#

  • 0.75.8 (October 24): fewer approval cards for safe actions, and Shared Bots limited to their share list.
  • 0.77.0 (October 26): a Permissions section listing every Auto-review rule, a Payments tab in Vault, Import Memory from another assistant, and approval cards that stay open for 30 minutes.
  • 0.78.1 (October 27, also covering 0.78.0): shopping cards with Buy now, subscription-management templates, and "Get Grok Bot with a unified plan" in place of the old free-trial offer.

Our what's new page tracks each release as it lands.

Is Grok Bot for you?#

It fits if you:

  • Repeat browser-heavy chores across several web apps every week.
  • Want work to continue while your laptop is closed.
  • Already pay for Cursor, SuperGrok or X Premium+, so access may cost nothing extra.
  • Are willing to set approval rules before letting a Bot send, buy or delete.

Skip it, for now, if you:

  • Only need answers to questions. The Grok chatbot covers that.
  • Need a self-hosted agent you control end to end. Look at our Grok Bot alternatives.
  • Cannot accept every Bot on your account sharing one computer and one set of logins.
  • Are on X Subscription Free or Plus and do not want to upgrade.

Our take#

Grok Bot is the most aggressive bet yet on agents that live on their own machine rather than in a chat box, and the release pace shows SpaceXSI is serious about it. If you already hold a qualifying plan, install it today and give one Bot one small job. If you would be paying fresh, start at Premium, set approvals first, and judge it on a week of real tasks. Our step-by-step setup guide gets you there.

Frequently asked questions#

Is Grok Bot the same thing as Grok?#

No. Grok is SpaceXSI's chatbot and model family, used at grok.com, in the Grok app and as @grok on X. Grok Bot is a separate product that launched in beta on August 11, 2026. It gives you named agents that run on a persistent cloud computer, sign into your apps with your logins and keep working after you close your laptop.

Who makes Grok Bot: xAI, SpaceXAI or SpaceXSI?#

All three names describe one company. SpaceX announced on February 2, 2026 that it had acquired xAI, which then traded as SpaceXAI. In October 2026 x.ai rebranded to SpaceXSI, while the site footer still names the legal entity SpaceXAI LLC. Cursor, whose cloud and accounts Grok Bot runs on, became part of the company on August 14, 2026.

Is Grok Bot built on OpenClaw?#

No. Grok Bot is a closed, hosted product running on Cursor's cloud. OpenClaw is an open-source agent platform you host yourself. The confusion comes from a separate SpaceXSI option that lets you use Grok models or a SuperGrok subscription inside your own OpenClaw Gateway. That arrangement has nothing to do with the Grok Bot apps.

How much does Grok Bot cost?#

There is no standalone price. Since October 12, 2026, new customers get Grok Bot with The X Subscription Premium at $30 a month, Super at $100 or Ultra at $200, or team seats at the same prices. Free and the $8 Plus plan do not include it. Existing Cursor, linked SuperGrok and X Premium+, and self-serve Grok Business seats keep working.

Can I use my Bots inside the Grok app or my Tesla?#

On the older plans, only with SuperGrok. A Cursor staff member said on October 11 that the Bots section in the main Grok app needs a SuperGrok subscription, so a Cursor plan shows an upgrade screen in the Grok app and in a Tesla. x.ai/pricing says The X Subscription pool covers Bot within Grok, but what the app shows on those plans is unconfirmed.

How do you spell it?#

SpaceXSI writes Grok Bot as two words, and that is the form to use in searches and support tickets. Grokbot, grok-bot and GrokBot show up in repository names, domains and forum posts. Grocbot, Grokboth and Grok Both are common search typos. All of them refer to the same product.
