Download Grok Bot: The Right Build for Every Device
Download Grok Bot for macOS, Windows 10/11, Linux (.deb, .rpm, AppImage), iOS 18+, iPadOS 18+ or Android 9+. Which build to pick and what mobile can't do.
◈Key Takeaways (5)
- •Desktop builds: macOS (Apple silicon, Intel), Windows (x64, Arm64), Linux (x64, Arm64) as .deb, .rpm or AppImage.
- •Mobile: iPhone on iOS 18+, iPad on iPadOS 18+, Android 9+; all connect to the same cloud computer.
- •Download only from x.ai/bot, cursor.com/download/bot, the App Store or Google Play.
- •Editing routines, test runs and cloud computer recovery need the desktop app.
- •There is no web version in the docs; closing any app does not stop your Bots.

Download Grok Bot from x.ai/bot or cursor.com/download/bot for your computer, or from the App Store and Google Play for your phone. Desktop builds exist for macOS (Apple silicon and Intel), Windows (x64 and Arm64) and Linux (x64 and Arm64); mobile runs on iOS 18+, iPadOS 18+ and Android 9+. Every app connects to the same cloud computer, so your Bots keep working no matter which device you close.
At a glance#

The docs list no browser version.
Step 1: Find out which build you need#
Picking the wrong architecture is the most common install snag. Check first.
Mac#
Open the Apple menu → About This Mac. "Chip" means Apple silicon; "Processor" means Intel. Since 0.78.1 (October 27), if you install the Intel build on an Apple silicon Mac, the app offers to fetch the Apple silicon version.
Windows#
Go to Settings → System → About and read System type: x64 or Arm64. The x.ai/bot list names only Windows x64; grab Arm64 from cursor.com/download/bot.
Linux#
Run uname -m in a terminal. x86_64 means x64; aarch64 means Arm64. Then pick the package format:
| Distro family | Package |
|---|---|
| Debian, Ubuntu | .deb |
| Fedora, RHEL | .rpm |
| Anything else | AppImage |
Step 2: Download from an official source only#
Stick to four places:
- x.ai/bot offers the build for your computer, with every other platform under More downloads: Windows 10 and 11 (x64), iPhone and iPad, Android, Intel Macs, and Linux .deb, AppImage or .rpm for x64 and arm64.
- cursor.com/download/bot lists every installer, including Windows Arm64 and each Linux format for both architectures.
- The App Store listing is "Grok Bot."
- Google Play listing is ai.x.grok.bot.
The mobile apps are separate from the Grok chatbot app, so check the name before installing. Cursor's docs add that the installer is also on the Grok Bot page of the Cursor dashboard.
If a direct installer link fails, go back to the download page instead of reusing an old URL. On September 18 a user reported the direct Windows x64 link for 0.57.0 returned Access Denied; Cursor staff shared the 0.56.1 installer as a stopgap.
Step 3: Install and sign in#
- Mac: open the disk image and drag Grok Bot into Applications. Choose Open if macOS asks. Since 0.66.0, a copy running from the disk image or Downloads offers Move to Applications.
- Windows: run the installer, then launch Grok Bot from the Start menu.
- Linux: install the .deb or .rpm with your package manager, or mark the AppImage executable and run it.
- All desktops: choose Sign in, finish authentication in the browser, and return to the app. If your access comes from SuperGrok, link it when prompted.
- Phones: install from the store and sign in with the same account. On a SuperGrok plan, the access screen offers Link Grok Account, then Finished Linking? Refresh My Status.
If your account already includes Grok Bot, do not buy a second subscription in the mobile app. Cursor's help says only monthly individual plans are sold there. Plan details are in our pricing guide. If sign-in loops on Windows, see our Windows sign-in fix. Once you are in, our setup walkthrough covers the first hour.
Keeping the desktop app current#
- Automatic updates are on by default since 0.65.0 (September 30). The app restarts to apply them while you are away. Toggle it in Settings → Updates, where Check for Updates forces a check.
- Forced updates: Cursor's help says the app requires an update when your version is more than 14 days old and a newer one exists. On Linux the screen may offer an apt or dnf command to copy, and since 0.71.2 (October 14) it links the latest .deb or .rpm.
- Find your version: account menu → Support → About.
- Update won't stick? Download the latest build from the Grok Bot page of your Cursor dashboard and install over the top. Your Bots and chats belong to your account, not the install.
- App vs computer: updating the desktop app does not touch the cloud computer, which has its own Update control in the same section.
What the phone app can and can't do#
The mobile app reaches the same Bots, conversations, routines, connectors and shared computer as desktop.
| Task | Phone | Desktop only |
|---|---|---|
| Message, dictate, voice chat | Yes | |
| Attach photos and files | Yes | |
| Mention Bots in group chats | Yes | |
| Take over the computer for a password or CAPTCHA | Yes | |
| Create Bots and groups, install plugins | Yes | |
| Approve or discard drafted emails and Slack messages | Yes | |
| Pause, resume, delete routines | Yes | |
| Vault (logins, cards, contact info), since 0.75.5 | Yes | |
| Edit a routine's schedule or instructions | Yes | |
| Test runs | Yes | |
| Update, recover or reset the cloud computer | Yes | |
| Teach a task by demonstration | Yes | |
| Create, publish and connect Shared Bots to Slack | Yes (chatting works on phone) |
Other phone differences:
- Share sheet: iPhone sends photos, files, links and text into a chat; Android accepts text only.
- Languages: Cursor's help lists 12 on the phone against 37 on desktop.
- Known bug: on Grok Bot for iPhone 1.18.0 with iOS 26 or later, adding a new Vault login shows no Save button. It is fixed in iPhone 1.19.0, rolling out on the App Store. Until then, add logins from desktop or the in-chat Secure Form.
- Shared Bots: sharing and browsing shared Bots on a phone need version 1.19.0 on iPhone and Android.
Android arrived on September 2, 2026, per Cursor's forum announcement.
Differences between Mac, Windows and Linux#
The three desktop apps share one feature set, with a handful of documented exceptions.
- Hardware security keys: the Bot's browser can use a key plugged into your desktop. On by default on macOS and Windows; not yet supported on Linux.
- Local computer commands: Execution on Local Computer defaults to Ask every time; the docs describe it for Mac and Windows.
- Notifications: since 0.71.2, while you use Grok Bot on a Mac or Windows PC, Bot replies and questions notify you there instead of on your phone. A Bot needing input still pings your phone about 3 minutes later unless you open it. On Linux, notifications are suppressed while the app is focused and your phone is notified as usual.
- 1Password: since 0.77.0 (October 26), the app on Windows and Linux spots an installed 1Password and can offer to connect it; no shared vault is needed on 0.68.0 or later.
- Shortcuts: Cmd on macOS, Ctrl on Windows and Linux. Dictation is Cmd/Ctrl+D; Settings is Cmd/Ctrl+,.
- Multiple accounts: Switch account and Add account are desktop features. The October 11 changelog says switching lands within seconds even if the other account's computer is asleep.
- Mac extra: View → View Unread filters to Bots with unread messages.
Your plan and usage do not change by device. Cursor's billing page says macOS and iOS share one usage bucket because both apps call the same backend. If you subscribed inside the iOS or Android app, set on-demand usage on the web.
Troubleshooting downloads#
Symptom → Fix
- Intel build on an Apple silicon Mac → Accept the 0.78.1 prompt to download the Apple silicon version, or reinstall from x.ai/bot.
- Direct installer link returns Access Denied → Start again from x.ai/bot or cursor.com/download/bot.
- App insists on updating → Your version is over 14 days old; update via Settings → Updates or the linked package.
- Linux app froze while a notification was showing → Update to 0.70.2 or later, which fixed it.
- App installed from the wrong listing → You probably installed the Grok chatbot. Look for "Grok Bot" or ai.x.grok.bot.
- No Save button for a Vault login on iPhone → Update to iPhone 1.19.0, or add the login from desktop.

Where official pages still disagree#
Some pages lag. On October 25 the FAQ on x.ai/bot still said to use desktop (macOS or Windows) or the iOS app, even though its own More downloads list includes Linux and Android. Cursor's Grok Bot docs now name macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android. The x.ai/bot list, checked October 7, names Windows x64 only, while the docs and Cursor's download page offer Arm64 too. We follow docs.x.ai and the download pages.
Our take#
Install the desktop app first, even if you mostly live on your phone: routine editing, test runs and computer recovery are desktop-only, and you will need them in week one. Check your chip or architecture before downloading, use only x.ai/bot or Cursor's page, and leave automatic updates on. Then add the phone app for approvals on the move. New to the product? Start with what Grok Bot is.
Frequently asked questions#
Does Grok Bot run on Windows 10?#
Yes. The More downloads list on x.ai/bot, checked October 7, 2026, describes the Windows build as Windows 10 and 11 (x64). The docs list Windows x64 and Arm64 builds without naming a minimum Windows version, and Cursor's download page also offers the Arm64 installer for Windows on Arm devices.
Is there a Grok Bot app for iPad?#
Yes. The docs say the iOS app also runs on iPad with iPadOS 18 or later. Install Grok Bot from the App Store on the iPad and sign in with the same account you use on desktop. It has the same limits as the iPhone app, so routine editing and test runs still need a computer.
Does Grok Bot work on Linux?#
Yes. Linux builds ship with every stable release for x64 and Arm64, as a .deb for Debian and Ubuntu, an .rpm for Fedora and RHEL, or an AppImage. Hardware security keys are not yet supported on Linux, and the Mac and Windows behaviour of moving notifications off your phone does not apply there.
Is there a web version of Grok Bot?#
Not according to the docs we checked, which list only desktop and mobile apps. A shared template link opens a preview on x.ai, but the docs say you need the Grok Bot app to finish adding the template. Your Bots run on a cloud computer either way, so any installed app gives you full access.
Is the Grok Bot app the same as the Grok app?#
No. Grok Bot has its own store listings: Grok Bot on the App Store and ai.x.grok.bot on Google Play. The Grok chatbot app is a separate download. The Grok app has a Bots section, but a Cursor staff member said on October 11 that it works only with SuperGrok; on a Cursor plan, use the Grok Bot apps.
How do I update Grok Bot on Linux?#
Use Settings, Updates, Check for Updates. If the app says Update required, Cursor's help says it may show a command: sudo apt update && sudo apt install --only-upgrade grok-bot on Debian or Ubuntu, or sudo dnf upgrade --refresh grok-bot on Fedora and other RPM systems. Since 0.71.2 that screen links the latest package. Restart afterwards.
