Grok Bot FAQ: 40 answers

40 Grok Bot answers, verified Oct 29, 2026: what it costs ($30+), free trials, devices, Gmail, Shared Bots, privacy, outages and the fixes that work.

◈Key Takeaways (5)
  • •Grok Bot has no standalone price; new buyers get it with The X Subscription from $30 a month.
  • •All your Bots share one cloud computer, so separate Bots are not separate security boundaries.
  • •Closing your laptop or phone does not stop a Bot's background work or routines.
  • •Check status.x.ai before resetting anything; Reset can lose recent, unsynced work.
  • •Type passwords on the Bot's screen yourself until a Secure Form fix is confirmed.

Basics#

What is Grok Bot? Grok Bot is SpaceXSI's agent product: you create named Bots, give each a job and message them like coworkers. Every account gets one persistent cloud computer with a browser, files and a terminal, which the Bots use to sign into your apps and keep working while you are offline. Start with our Grok Bot explainer.

Is Grok Bot the same as the Grok chatbot? No. Grok answers questions at grok.com, in the Grok app and as @grok on X. Grok Bot operates a computer to finish tasks for you, and it has its own apps and store listings. The explainer maps every product that shares the name.

Who makes Grok Bot: xAI, SpaceXAI or SpaceXSI? All three, at different times. SpaceX announced it had acquired xAI on February 2, 2026; the company traded as SpaceXAI and rebranded as SpaceXSI in October, with the legal entity still SpaceXAI LLC. Cursor joined on August 14, 2026. See the dated timeline.

Is Grok Bot built on OpenClaw? No. Grok Bot is a closed, hosted product running on Cursor's cloud, while OpenClaw is open-source software you host yourself. The mix-up comes from SpaceXSI letting you use Grok models or a SuperGrok subscription inside OpenClaw. Our Grok Bot vs OpenClaw comparison covers the trade-offs.

What is the latest Grok Bot version? Version 0.78.1, released October 27, 2026, together with 0.78.0. It added shopping cards, order tracking, Shop Pay in Vault and three subscription templates. Every release is summarized in what's new.

Pricing & plans#

How much does Grok Bot cost? It is not sold on its own. Since October 12, 2026, it comes with The X Subscription's Premium ($30 a month), Super ($100) or Ultra ($200), and with team seats at the same prices. Full tier details are in our pricing guide.

Does the $8 Plus plan include Grok Bot? No. x.ai/pricing marks Grok Bot as not included on Free or Plus, and SpaceXSI's docs say to pick Premium or higher. Plus does cover Cursor's agent and Grok Build. Compare tiers in pricing.

Is there a Grok Bot free trial? Only by referral, as far as the docs say. A referred friend who signs up and enters a card gets two weeks of Premium free, with a reminder seven days before billing; the referrer must be a US-based paid Premium, Super or Ultra subscriber. Since 0.78.1 (October 27), the app shows Get Grok Bot with a unified plan instead of a trial. Details in pricing.

I already pay for Cursor or SuperGrok. Do I have to switch? No. SpaceXSI says existing Cursor, SuperGrok and X Premium plans continue at the same price. Switching is permanent, cancels the old web subscriptions with a prorated refund, and does not cancel a Cursor plan bought through Apple, which you must cancel yourself. Read the pricing guide before switching.

Is X Subscription Ultra the same as Cursor Ultra? No, despite the shared name and $200 price. X Subscription Ultra has 50x Plus usage shared across Grok and Cursor (x.ai/bot says 12x Premium), while Cursor Ultra is a legacy plan that matches SuperGrok Heavy as the top Grok Bot tier. Neither company publishes how the two allowances compare; see pricing.

How big is the weekly allowance, and when does it reset? No absolute figure is published. x.ai gives Premium 4x Plus usage, Super 15x and Ultra 50x, and that pool also covers your Grok and Cursor use. It resets weekly, and since 0.63.0 Settings → Usage & Billing shows when; see usage limits.

What happens when I run out of usage before the reset? On The X Subscription, extra use draws on prepaid credit, and a monthly additional usage limit is the hard stop; Auto Top-up stays off unless you enable it. On legacy Cursor plans, work stops unless on-demand usage is on, and a run already in progress can finish past the monthly limit. Our usage limits guide shows how to set a hard cap.

Setup & devices#

Do I need to keep my computer on? No. Bots run on a cloud computer, and the official FAQ says closing the app, laptop or phone does not stop background work or routines. The apps are just windows onto that computer. Our how-to-use guide walks through a first task.

Does Grok Bot run on Windows 10? Yes. The download list on x.ai/bot offers the Windows build for Windows 10 and 11 (x64), and the docs also list an Arm64 build. Find every installer in our download guide.

Does Grok Bot work on Linux? Yes. Every stable release ships for x64 and Arm64 as a .deb, an .rpm or an AppImage. Hardware security keys are not yet supported on Linux; see download for update commands.

Can I use Grok Bot on iPhone, iPad or Android? Yes. The iOS app runs on iPadOS 18 or later, and Android has its own app; sign in with the same account. You can chat, create Bots, install plugins and approve drafts on a phone, but editing a routine's schedule needs the desktop app. See download.

What should my first task be? Something small, checkable and contained to the chat. The official docs suggest attaching a document and asking for a five-bullet summary that cites every date, decision and open question. Our how-to-use guide has a full walkthrough.

Features#

What is the difference between a skill and a routine? A skill is a reusable method for a task; a routine tells a Bot when to run work, on a schedule or after an event. Save the method as a skill first, then add a routine once it should run unattended. Our skills vs routines guide explains when to use each.

What are Grok Bot Pages? Pages are reports, memos, dashboards and trackers a Bot builds, added in 0.75.2 on October 22. A new Page is private until you share it, and only the Bot can change its content; you edit by asking in the chat beside it. See our Pages guide.

Can a Bot have its own email address? Yes. Since the October 11 release, you can claim one address at mail.grokbot.com per account; it cannot be renamed or deleted. On a Cursor team, an admin must enable Agent Email first. Setup is in our Gmail and Workspace guide.

What is a primary Bot? It is the Bot marked with a star in your sidebar. Since 0.66.0 (October 2) it can spot work and offer to take it on, and since 0.68.0 a Shared Bot cannot be primary. The glossary defines the rest of the vocabulary.

What is Vault? Vault, added in 0.75.5, stores logins, cards and contact details in Settings so Bots can sign in and pay. Bots never see the saved secret values, but every Bot on your account can use every item, and no setting forces a prompt before a saved card is used. Weigh that in our safety guide.

Integrations#

Are plugins and connectors the same thing? In practice, yes. The docs say connectors install as plugins, and the app calls them plugins. They live in Connect Apps, which was Marketplace before 0.67.0; see plugins and MCP.

Can Grok Bot use an MCP server on my laptop? No. A Cursor staff member said on August 13 that Grok Bot does not attach MCP servers running on your own machine, because Bots work in the cloud. Use a public HTTPS server, a catalog plugin or the Bot's browser instead; options are in plugins and MCP.

Should I use a connector or the browser? Prefer a connector when one exists. Since 0.75.5, when the Bot hands you its screen to sign into a site that has a connector, it also offers that connector, which keeps the login out of the shared browser. Our connectors vs browser guide has the full decision.

Can Grok Bot send email from my Gmail? Yes, once the Gmail plugin is connected. By default you get an editable draft card, but since 0.75.5 an email you request in chat goes out once Auto-review allows it, while routine emails still wait as drafts. See Gmail and Google Workspace.

Can I connect two Gmail accounts at once? Cursor's help says Gmail connects one mailbox at a time, while the 0.77.0 changelog says adding a second Gmail or Drive account now opens Google's account picker. Check your own app, and remember every Bot can use every connected mailbox. Details in Gmail and Google Workspace.

Where did the Marketplace and Bot templates go? Templates moved to the web Marketplace at x.ai/bot/marketplace when 0.67.0 renamed the in-app Marketplace to Connect Apps. Adding a template creates a copy on your account and does not give you the creator's logins or history. See templates and Marketplace.

Teams#

What is a Shared Bot? A Shared Bot is one Bot your whole team uses, each person in a private chat. It arrived as Team Bots in 0.61.0 on September 26, and the docs renamed it Shared Bots by October 28. Our Shared Bots guide covers setup.

What do Shared Bots cost? There is no separate price. They are in public beta on Teams and Enterprise, and each teammate's chats count against that teammate's own allowance, while Slack workflow posts count against the owner. See Shared Bots for seat prices.

Can a Shared Bot's owner read my chats? No. The docs say every chat is private, and neither owner nor teammates can read each other's conversations. Team memory is the exception: anything saved there is visible to every teammate's chat. More in Shared Bots.

Can admins stop members creating their own Bots? Only partly. Since 0.77.0 admins can limit sharing to admins, but nothing stops members creating personal Bots. Admins can still control who has Grok Bot at all and push chosen Shared Bots to everyone; see Shared Bots.

Safety & privacy#

Does Grok Bot train on my data? Not with Privacy Mode on. A Cursor staff member said on August 12 that Grok Bot data is then not used for training by Cursor or any model provider, including xAI. Legacy Privacy Mode is not supported; see is Grok Bot safe?.

Is the Secure Form safe for passwords? Not yet confirmed. On October 5 Cursor staff confirmed a report of a Secure Form password appearing in plain text in a page snapshot, and no release notes since mention a fix. Type passwords on the Bot's screen yourself, and change any you already entered; see our shared-computer guide.

Does each Bot get its own computer? No. One cloud computer per account is shared by every Bot, including its browser sessions and files, so isolation is per user, not per Bot. Keep sensitive logins off Grok Bot or use a separate account; see shared computer.

Can Grok Bot spend my money? Yes. Bots can pay with X Money, Stripe Link, Shop Pay and cards saved in Vault, and a saved card can be used without a prompt. Put purchases behind an Ask first rule using our permissions guide.

Can a web page trick my Bot? It can try. The docs say content a Bot reads, such as web pages and plugin results, can attempt to steer it, and defenses reduce but do not eliminate that. Keep sending, buying, deleting and publishing behind Ask first rules; see permissions.

Troubleshooting#

How do I know if Grok Bot is down? Check status.x.ai, where Cursor's status updates moved on October 26, then the forum's grok-bot tag. Declared incidents can lag user reports by hours. Our status guide lists every incident.

Why did all my Bots stop at once? Because they share one computer. When it is stuck, unreachable or updating, every Bot fails together, so the fix targets the computer, not a Bot. Work through not responding.

Should I reset the Bot's computer? Only as the last step. The official order is Retry, restart the app, Recover, Update, then Reset, which restores the last snapshot and can lose recent work. During a declared outage, skip all of them; see not responding.

Why didn't my routine run? Check the status history first: routines were held back or dropped on October 3, 8 and 13, and missed runs were not replayed. Then check limits of 300 runs an hour in total and 200 per routine, plus a shared limit that can also trigger Automation run rate limit exceeded. Our routines guide has the checklist.

My Bots vanished after I switched plans. Are they gone? Cursor staff say no; during the switch, Bots can land on a different account from the plan. Sign out everywhere, including grok.com, sign back in the way you created the Bots, and email support@x.ai if they do not return. Do not reset, delete or buy a second plan; see sign-in errors.

Our take#

Most Grok Bot confusion comes from three facts: it has no price of its own, all your Bots share one computer, and the product changes weekly. Learn those, set Ask first rules on anything that sends or spends, and check the troubleshooting hub before you reach for Reset.

Frequently asked questions#

How much does Grok Bot cost?#

There is no standalone price. Since October 12, 2026, new customers get Grok Bot with The X Subscription: Premium at $30 a month, Super at $100 or Ultra at $200, or team seats at those prices. Free and the $8 Plus plan do not include it. Existing Cursor, SuperGrok, X Premium+ and Grok Business plans keep working.

Is Grok Bot the same as Grok?#

No. Grok is the chatbot at grok.com, in the Grok app and as @grok on X. Grok Bot is a separate product, launched in beta on August 11, 2026: named agents that run on a persistent cloud computer, sign into your apps and keep working after you close your laptop.

Is there a Grok Bot free trial?#

Only through a referral, according to SpaceXSI's docs. A referred friend who signs up and adds a card gets a two-week Premium trial, with a reminder seven days before the first charge. The referrer must be on a paid Premium, Super or Ultra plan and based in the US. Since October 27, the in-app trial offer is gone.

Is Grok Bot down right now?#

Check status.x.ai, which has carried Cursor's status updates since October 26, 2026 and lists Grok Bot as its own component. A green page only means no incident is declared, so also check the Cursor forum's grok-bot tag. If many users report the same symptom in the same hour, wait rather than reset.

Does Grok Bot train on my data?#

Not with Privacy Mode on. The docs say training opt-out follows your Cursor account settings, and a Cursor staff member said on August 12 that with Privacy Mode enabled, Grok Bot data is not used for training by Cursor or any model provider, including xAI. Legacy Privacy Mode does not work with Grok Bot at all.

Who makes Grok Bot?#

SpaceXSI, the company formerly called xAI and then SpaceXAI. SpaceX announced its acquisition of xAI on February 2, 2026, and the brand switched to SpaceXSI in October, with the legal entity still SpaceXAI LLC. Cursor, whose cloud and accounts Grok Bot runs on, became part of the company on August 14, 2026.
